L’arte che sfida i sensi. Un elenco di alcune delle esposizioni di molti artisti di fama internazionale.

1. PHILIP GUSTON (05.0.2023 – 25.02.2024)

Uno dei pittori più affascinanti del XX secolo risponde a un mondo in tumulto.

Per oltre 50 anni, l’artista canadese Philip Guston (1913-1980) ha realizzato instancabilmente dipinti e disegni che catturavano il mondo ansioso e turbolento di cui era testimone.

2. HYUNDAI COMMISSION. EL ANATSUI: BEHIND THE RED MOON (10.10.2023 – 14.04.2024)

L’artista ghanese EL ANATSUI (1944) ha realizzato per  Tate Modern una monumentale installazione scultorea composta da migliaia di tappi e frammenti di bottiglie di metallo.

Accartocciandoli, schiacciandoli e cucendoli in diverse composizioni, grandi pannelli vengono messi insieme per formare enormi campi astratti di colore, forma e linea.

La commissione si basa sull’interesse di El Anatsui per le storie di incontri e di migrazione di beni e persone durante la tratta transatlantica degli schiavi.

3. CAPTURING THE MOMENT (13.06.2023 – 28.04.2024)

Un viaggio attraverso la pittura e la fotografia.

L’avvento della fotografia cambiò per sempre il corso della pittura.

Questa mostra eplora la relazione dinamica tra i due mezzi attraverso alcune delle opere d’arte più iconiche degli ultimi tempi.

Dai dipinti di Pablo Picasso e Paula Rego, alle straordinarie fotografie di Hiroshi Sugimoto e Jeff Wall, si evidenzia come questi due mezzi distinti si sono modellati a vicenda nel tempo.

4. YAYOI KUSAMA: INFINITY MIRROR ROOMS (16.05.2021 – 28.04.2024)

Infinity Mirrored Room – Filled with the Brilliance of Life è una delle più grandi installazioni dell’artista giapponese ultranovantenne Yayoi Kusama(1929) fino ad oggi, ed è stata realizzata per la sua retrospettiva del 2012 alla Tate Modern.

Ora è riproposta in una sala speciale che crea l’illusione di un universo sconfinato di lampadari di cristallo rotanti.

5. BOB AND ROBERTA SMITH: THAMESMEAD CODEX fino a Maggio 2024

Dal 2019 al 2020, gli artisti Bob e Roberta Smith hanno intervistato persone che vivono a Thamesmead, nel sud-est di Londra.

Costruito nel 1968 per alleviare la carenza di alloggi a Londra, Thamesmead è stato uno dei tanti progetti modernisti di edilizia residenziale su larga scala costruiti in tutta Europa dopo la Seconda guerra mondiale.

6. YOKO ONO. MUSIC OF THE MIND ( 01.02 – 01.09.2024)

Yoko Ono è una figura di spicco nell’arte concettuale e performativa, nel cinema sperimentale e nella musica.

Sviluppando la sua pratica in America, Giappone e Regno Unito, è rinomata per il suo attivismo, il suo lavoro per la pace nel mondo e le campagne ambientali.

7. KANDINSKY, MÜNTER AND THE BLUE RIDER (25.04 -20.10.2024)

All’inizio del XX secolo un gruppo di amici, conosciuti come The Blue Rider si unirono per formare, “un’unione di vari paesi con un unico scopo”: trasformare l’arte moderna.

Si sono riuniti attorno a Wassily Kandinsky e Gabriele Münter per sperimentare il colore, il suono e la luce, creando un’arte audace e vibrante.

8. ZANELE MUHOLI (06.06.2024 – 26.01.2025)

L’artista e attivista sudafricana Zanele Muholi è una dei fotografi più acclamati che lavorano oggi e il suo lavoro è stato esposto in tutto il mondo.

Con oltre 260 fotografie, questa mostra presenta l’intera gamma della sua carriera fino ad oggi.

9. MIKE KELLEY. GHOST AND SPIRIT (02.10.2024 -09.03.2025)

La prima grande mostra nel Regno Unito dell’artista americano Mike Kelley(1954-2012).

Vengono presentati i mondi elaborati, provocatori e immaginari creati dall’artista sperimentale che, dalla fine degli anni ’70 al 2012, ha realizzato un corpus diversificato di lavori utilizzando disegno, collage, performance, oggetti trovati e video.

10. ANTHONY McCALL ( 27.06.2024 – 27.04.2025)

Occupando uno spazio tra scultura, cinema e disegno, Antony McCall (1946) è noto per le sue installazioni a “luce solida” iniziate nel 1973 con l’opera fondamentale Line Describing a Cone, un’opera chiave nella collezione della Tate.

Nella mostra, i visitatori potranno entrare ed esplorare le forme scultoree su larga scala che l’artista crea da una nebbia sottile e piani di luce proiettata in lenta evoluzione.

11. ELECTRIC DREAMS (28.11.2024 -01.06.2025)

Dalla nascita dell’op art agli albori della cibernetica, gli artisti hanno trovato nuovi modi per coinvolgere i sensi e giocare con la nostra percezione.

Electric Dreams celebra i primi innovatori dell’arte ottica, cinetica, programmata e digitale, che hanno aperto la strada a una nuova era di installazioni sensoriali immersive e di opere generate automaticamente.

ART THAT CHALLENGES THE SENSES. A LIST OF SOME OF THE EXHIBITIONS BY MANY INTERNATIONALLY RENOWNED ARTISTS.

1 – PHILIP GUSTON (05.0.2023 – 25.02.2024)

One of the most fascinating painters of the 20th century responds to a tumultuous world.

For over 50 years, Canadian artist Philip Guston (1913-1980) tirelessly created paintings and drawings that captured the anxious and turbulent world he witnessed.

2 – HYUNDAI COMMISSION. EL ANATSUI: BEHIND THE RED MOON (10.10.2023 – 14.04.2024)

Ghanaian artist EL ANATSUI (1944) has created a monumental sculptural installation for Tate Modern composed of thousands of metal bottle caps and fragments.

By crumpling, flattening, and sewing them into different compositions, large panels are assembled to form vast abstract fields of color, shape, and line.

The commission is based on El Anatsui’s interest in the stories of encounters and the migration of goods and people during the transatlantic slave trade.

3 – CAPTURING THE MOMENT (13.06.2023 – 28.04.2024)

A journey through painting and photography.

The advent of photography forever changed the course of painting.

This exhibition explores the dynamic relationship between the two mediums through some of the most iconic artworks of recent times.

From the paintings of Pablo Picasso and Paula Rego to the extraordinary photographs of Hiroshi Sugimoto and Jeff Wall, it highlights how these two distinct mediums have shaped each other over time.

4 – YAYOI KUSAMA: INFINITY MIRROR ROOMS (16.05.2021 – 28.04.2024)

Infinity Mirrored Room – Filled with the Brilliance of Life is one of the largest installations to date by the over ninety-year-old Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama (1929), and was created for her 2012 retrospective at Tate Modern.

Now it is re-presented in a special room that creates the illusion of an endless universe of rotating crystal chandeliers.

5 – BOB AND ROBERTA SMITH: THAMESMEAD CODEX UNTIL MAY 2024

From 2019 to 2020, artists Bob and Roberta Smith interviewed people living in Thamesmead, southeast London.

Built in 1968 to alleviate London’s housing shortage, Thamesmead was one of many large-scale modernist residential building projects constructed across Europe after World War II.

6 – YOKO ONO. MUSIC OF THE MIND (01.02 – 01.09.2024)

Yoko Ono is a prominent figure in conceptual and performance art, experimental film, and music.

Developing her practice in America, Japan, and the United Kingdom, she is renowned for her activism, her work for world peace, and her environmental campaigns.

7 – KANDINSKY, MÜNTER AND THE BLUE RIDER (25.04 -20.10.2024)

In the early 20th century, a group of friends, known as The Blue Rider, came together to form “a union of various countries with a single purpose”: to transform modern art.

They gathered around Wassily Kandinsky and Gabriele Münter to experiment with color, sound, and light, creating bold and vibrant art.

8 – ZANELE MUHOLI (06.06.2024 – 26.01.2025)

South African artist and activist Zanele Muholi is one of the most acclaimed photographers working today, and their work has been exhibited around the world.

With over 260 photographs, this exhibition presents the full range of their career to date.

9 – MIKE KELLEY. GHOST AND SPIRIT (02.10.2024 -09.03.2025)

The first major UK exhibition of American artist Mike Kelley (1954-2012).

It presents the elaborate, provocative, and imaginary worlds created by the experimental artist who, from the late 1970s to 2012, produced a diverse body of work using drawing, collage, performance, found objects, and video.

10 – ANTHONY MCCALL (27.06.2024 – 27.04.2025)

Occupying a space between sculpture, cinema, and drawing, Antony McCall (1946) is known for his “solid light” installations that began in 1973 with the seminal work Line Describing a Cone, a key piece in Tate’s collection.

In the exhibition, visitors will be able to enter and explore the large-scale sculptural forms the artist creates from thin mist and slowly evolving projected light planes.

11 – ELECTRIC DREAMS (28.11.2024 -01.06.2025)

From the birth of op art to the dawn of cybernetics, artists have found new ways to engage the senses and play with our perception.

Electric Dreams celebrates the early innovators of optical, kinetic, programmed, and digital art, who paved the way for a new era of immersive sensory installations and automatically generated works.

Tate Modern Exhibitions 2024, art that challenges the senses. Here is a small list of some of the exhibitions by many internationally renowned artists that can be visited at one of the locations of the great museum complex Tate.

 

“Focus cultura” is the new section of Pikasus ArteNews that invites reflection on the value of art in all its expressive forms of thought and human creativity. Focus investigates the role and fundamental contribution of art to a balanced, sustainable, and ‘human’ development of society. The topics will be varied, ranging from the presentation of specialized and niche magazines to book reviews, and any other initiative that arises from creative women and men inspired and capable of formulating courageous hypotheses for the common good.
